Early releases

The band first appears with a double A-side single in 2013, featuring “Get Away” and “Good For Me”. In 2014 they release the Young Chasers EP on Transgressive. Their debut album, Young Chasers, follows on Virgin EMI in 2015 and is produced by Dan Grech. The album includes the title track from the earlier EP, along with the singles “T-Shirt Weather” and “Fossils”.

Albums and later work

Different Creatures, the second album, is released on Virgin EMI in 2017. It is produced by Alan Moulder and Kieran Shudall. The band later releases the singles “Wake Up”, “Fire That Burns” and “Stuck” ahead of the album. Their third album, What’s It Like Over There?, arrives in 2019 and reaches number 10 on the UK Albums Chart. It is supported by “Times Won’t Change Me”, “Movies” and “The Way We Say Goodbye”.

In 2019 the band also releases “Jacqueline”. This leads into their fourth studio album, Sad Happy, which is issued in two parts across 2020, with a “Happy” side and a “Sad” side.

Style and reception

Circa Waves are described as working in indie rock, alternative rock, new wave and pop. Their later recordings are noted for combining the energy of the first album with more developed lyrics and the use of instruments such as violins and cellos. Young Chasers is compared with the sound of We Are Scientists, The Kooks, The Libertines and Razorlight, while What’s It Like Over There? is noted for its mix of indie and pop rock and for its experimentation.
