Nottingham is very well connected, making it easy to reach from anywhere. Nottingham's main train station is in the city center and offers frequent services to and from London (about 1.5-2 hours), as well as direct trains to Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, and other major cities. If you are coming by plane, the nearest airport is East Midlands (EMA), about 20 miles away with regular trains and dedicated bus services (like the Skylink coach) to Nottingham. Birmingham and Manchester airports are also within a couple of hours by train. National and regional coaches and buses (such as National Express and Megabus) serve Nottingham too, stopping at the central bus station.
Getting around within Nottingham is convenient. The city center is compact and easy to explore on foot. For longer distances, Nottingham City Transport operates a comprehensive bus network in and around the city. There is also a modern tram service (NET) that links the city center to many suburbs; it's a fast and green way to travel. Many visitors use the Park & Ride lots, where you can park your car for free on the outskirts and take a tram into town. Taxis and rideshares are readily available too.
If you're driving, Nottingham is easily reached via the M1 motorway (exit at junctions 26 or 27). The city has many car parks close to the center. Some events and venues also offer parking. If you prefer not to drive into the busy center, consider one of the Park & Ride sites on the outskirts where you can take a tram or bus into town. This helps avoid traffic and gives you a chance to relax.
Nottingham offers a variety of accommodation for every budget. You'll find plenty of hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs right in the city center near Old Market Square, as well as some outside the center along the tram routes. Booking in advance is wise, especially during popular events. Staying central will put you at the heart of Nottingham's shops, restaurants and nightlife, but there are also affordable options in nearby suburbs. Wherever you stay, you'll be close to Nottingham's friendly atmosphere and have easy transport connections to the festival venues.
