Mary Anne Hobbs is an English DJ and music journalist from Preston, in the United Kingdom. She is active in radio and music journalism, and her work spans dubstep, electronic, experimental and UK garage.

Career

Hobbs begins her journalism career in the 1980s, working for Sounds magazine at the age of 19. She later works for NME and helps found Loaded magazine. In radio, she gets her break at BBC GLR, where she works alongside Mark Lamarr, then moves to XFM before joining BBC Radio 1.

Broadcasting

At BBC Radio 1, Hobbs fronts the Radio 1 Rock Show and the experimental and electronic Breezeblock for several years. In September 2006, the Breezeblock title is dropped in favour of Experimental, while the programme keeps her name in the title. She also presents the World Superbikes series for British Eurosport in 2005.

Dubstep and related work

Hobbs becomes a notable champion of dubstep and grime. She releases the compilation album Warrior Dubz on Planet Mu, and curates a stage dedicated to dubstep and grime at the Sónar festival in 2007.

She has an early interest in rock, heavy metal and motorbikes.
