Mac DeMarco is a Canadian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Duncan, Canada. Born Vernor Winfield MacBriare Smith IV in 1990, he works in folk pop, indie pop, indie rock, jangle pop, pop and psychedelic pop. He also has links to lo-fi, post-punk and experimental music.

Career

During high school, DeMarco plays in several bands, including The Meat Cleavers, The Sound of Love and Outdoor Miners. He releases a self-produced album, Heat Wave, as part of the indie rock project Makeout Videotape in 2009. He later appears in Shitfather as well.

DeMarco issues a string of full-length releases beginning with Rock and Roll Night Club in 2012, followed by 2 later the same year. Salad Days arrives in 2014, and he follows it with the mini-LP Another One in 2015. That same year he also releases the instrumental album Some Other Ones.

In 2017, he releases This Old Dog. Here Comes the Cowboy follows in 2019 and is released on Mac’s Record Label. He collaborates with Yellow Days on “The Curse” in 2020. In 2023, he releases the instrumental album Five Easy Hot Dogs and the 199-track One Wayne G, a long release drawing on material recorded over several years. Guitar follows in 2025.
