Gulp
Gulp is a Cardiff-based Welsh/Scottish psychedelic band active from 2012. The group centres on Lindsey Leven and Guto Pryce of Super Furry Animals, with Gid Goundrey on guitar and Gwion Llewelyn of Race Horses on drums.
The band’s sound combines fuzzed-up bass, dream-folk vocals, acoustic and electronic drums, and synths. It is described through imagery of landscape and travel, drawing on cinematic and ethereal textures, with references to the Californian desert as well as rural Scottish and Welsh settings.
Releases and early activity
Gulp’s debut single, Game Love, appears in June 2012 and receives a five-star review from Artrocker and a pick of the week in The Guardian Guide. A second single, Play, is mixed by Guto Pryce’s Super Furry Animals bandmate Cian Ciaran.
In late 2012 the band tours the UK and Ireland supporting Django Django. They also contribute a cover of Hand of Man to Django Django’s Hi Djinx! remix LP.
The group is also working on an LP at that point, with live activity continuing across gigs and festivals.
