George the Poet is George Mpanga, a British spoken word artist and rapper with an interest in social and political issues. Born in 1991, he is from Neasden in the United Kingdom and is born to Ugandan parents. He grows up on the St Raphael's Estate in Harlesden, London.

Early life and education

George the Poet begins performing rap and grime at the age of 15. He attends Queen Elizabeth's School in Barnet and later studies politics, psychology and sociology at King's College, Cambridge.

Career

In May 2012, he premieres the piece My City. He later becomes the face of BBC Radio 1's Hackney Weekend. He signs to Island Records in August 2013.

Recordings

In October 2014, he releases the EP The Chicken and the Egg and the single 1,2,1,2 with Bodhi. In 2015, he releases Cat D and Wotless.
