Friendly Fires

Friendly Fires are a British indie band from St Albans, United Kingdom, formed in 2006 and active since then. The group consists of Ed MacFarlane on vocals, Edd Gibson on guitar and Jack Savidge on drums.

Albums and singles

The band’s self-titled debut album appears in 2008 and includes the singles “Paris”, “Jump in the Pool” and “Skeleton Boy”. Their second album, Pala, follows in 2011.

Background and sound

Friendly Fires emerge from the remains of First Day Back, a hardcore band the members form while they are still at school in St Albans. Their music is described as post-punk with a sparse, urgent feel, alongside more expansive melodic passages. The group is associated with indie rock and indietronica, and their sound is also tagged electronic, new rave and dance.

Album title reference

The title Pala refers to the fictional utopia in Aldous Huxley’s novel Island, published in 1962.
