Fable is a New Zealand DJ and electronic artist associated with trance, uplifting trance, progressive trance and tech-trance. The act is listed as a person from New Zealand.

Background

Fable describes an early interest in music that begins in southwestern Sweden, where music-making starts at the age of 15 after a friend introduces Propellerhead Reason. Early beat-making draws on hard rock and classic rock records from a family vinyl collection, with inspiration from Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Rainbow and Whitesnake.

There is also an earlier phase shaped by ska, followed by a move into underground hip hop around the age of 16. Influences from that period include 9th Wonder, Kev Brown, Pete Rock, Tony Stone, Lightheaded, The Procussions, Symbolic1, Living Legends, Little Brother, J Dilla and People Under The Stairs. This leads into an ongoing interest in jazz, soul and funk.

Style and influences

Fable later becomes interested in drum and bass after hearing High Contrast’s “Racing Green”, and describes an attachment to deep, soulful liquid sounds and moody textures. The project’s stated musical background therefore spans rock, ska, hip hop, jazz, soul, funk and drum and bass, alongside its trance and electronic orientation.

Related act

Fable is also the name of a collaboration between Jonas Steur, also known as Estuera, and Fabrice Ernst, who records as DJ Fabb'x. That project releases the single “Above”, which appears on the A State of Trance 2006 compilation.
