Council confirms three-day Oxford festival to go ahead

Oxford City Council has confirmed that a three-day Oxford festival is going ahead this weekend. The event in Cutteslowe Park is scheduled to begin tomorrow Friday, August 22 and end on Sunday, August 24. There will be three different themes for each day with Campfire Country on Friday, Beatmasters on Saturday (90s and 2000s and restricted to over 18s), and We Love It on Sunday.

Local Objections:

The event had been approved by Oxford City Council on Wednesday, August 6 after four locals raised objections to the proposals. One objector said: “This park is surrounded by small, family homes with many young children, who will not want to be kept awake late at night with live or recorded music – noise pollution for everyone.” Meanwhile, Thames Valley Police raised concerns about the short notice of the application and about “the significant increase in use of the park for festivals given the proximity of local residence”.

Permit Approval:

As of Thursday, August 21, the event had not yet been given a permit to go ahead although a spokesperson for the council said they were planning on doing so. They said: “We will be issuing the permit today unless any major last-minute objections are raised.”

In addition, the council provided an update on disabled and wider parking for the event. They said: “There is disabled parking in the usual pay and display parking area of the park, but all other attendees are recommended to use public transport/park and rides.”

Ticket Sales:

Earlier this month the organisers behind the festivals had said they had sold 2,098 tickets for Friday, 700 for Saturday and 650 for Sunday at the meeting. The event will begin at Cutteslowe Park, north Oxford at 3pm.

Festival Details:

  • Start Date: Friday, August 22
  • Themes: Campfire Country, Beatmasters (90s and 2000s), We Love It
  • Location: Cutteslowe Park, Oxford
  • Parking: Disabled parking available, recommended to use public transport/park and rides
  • Time: Festival starts at 3pm each day

Overall, the festival promises to be an exciting event for attendees with various themes and activities planned for each day. Despite initial objections, the council has given the green light for the festival to proceed this weekend.
