Cheers for Dudley Beer
A popular beer from the Black Country has been judged one of Britain's best ales at the Great British Beer Festival in Birmingham. Snowflake, from Sarah Hughes brewery in Sedgley, took the silver medal, impressing ale-lovers.
Award Winning Beer
Snowflake, an eight percent barley wine, was praised for its fruity and spicy notes. The event, organized by Camra, also awarded Penzance Mild as the top beer. Thousands of visitors are expected at the festival, held until Saturday at the NEC in Birmingham.
Local Tribute
The award for Snowflake is especially meaningful as it comes shortly after the passing of John Hughes, who revived the brewery in memory of his grandmother, Sarah. The brewery is located at the Beacon Hotel.
