3 things to love about day festivals (and the very best ones to book right now)
If you’ve suddenly found yourself allergic to deflated air mattresses, we see you. Stylist’s Amie-Jo Locke discusses the joy of day festivals, and the ones to nab tickets to before the season ends…
You’re prepared for anything the weather forecast decides to throw at you
I’m all too familiar with the practice of religiously checking the weather apps weeks before Glastonbury, because there really is nothing worse than lugging bags of ‘just in case’ clothes to a camping festival.
Day festivals can be a lot more accessible (and affordable) than the bigger events
One of my pals has a genuine fear of dense crowds, which dictates the kind of events she’ll go to. Day festivals however, feel more manageable because she can always leave (and get home) if it all becomes too much. Generally speaking, too, day festivals don’t feel as manic and populated as some of the bigger weekend behemoths, which make them a good alternative for people who want to see their favourite bands without feeling herded or boxed-in.
It’s a lot easier to be spontaneous at a day festival
In my experience, you don’t have to commit to a day festival months and months before the event. In fact, there are times when friends have reached out to me with a spare ticket for something because one of their original group has pulled out. Even if you haven’t heard of the headline act, it’s always great fun to head along to a day festival with your tribe – you never know, you might discover your new favourite artist or DJ, purely because a pal had a spare ticket they didn’t want to waste.
- All Points East in London’s Victoria Park
- South Facing Festival in Crystal Palace Bowl
- Other day festivals like We Out Here, Big Feastival, Reading and Leeds festivals
It’s always worth having a little browse online to find the kind of day festival to suit your vibe. Then, it’s simply a case of praying for sunshine. Stay hydrated. Enjoy.
