La Amore

La Amore are set to keep the Jubilee party spirit going as they join the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra at Rochester Castle Gardens on 21 July.

Fresh from serenading Britain during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, classical group Amore will perform as special guests at the Castle Proms on Saturday, 21 July.

As part of The Royal College of Music Chamber Choir, the group were on board the final vessel to reach Tower Bridge for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee flotilla spectacular on Sunday.

Shivering with soaking song sheets, they refused to let the typically British downpour dampen their spirits and entertained the royal family with rousing renditions of of Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and the national anthem. They also performed to the British public every day for 30 days at various locations around the country in the run-up to the celebrations.

Now they’re set to keep the Jubilee party spirit going as they join the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra at Rochester Castle Gardens on 21 July.  Tickets are already selling fast for the concert which has become a highlight of the summer in Medway, bringing audiences from far and wide to hear classical favourites along with picnics, champagne and fireworks.

Amore is made up of four friends: soprano Monica McGhee, baritone Peter Brathwaite, mezzo soprano Victoria Gray and tenor David Webb.  It was a chance meeting at a coffee shop between bosses at Warner Brothers and a tutor from the Royal College of Music that made the group of singers’ dreams come true.  After a band member overheard a conversation about the need for a fresh classical group, Amore formed a four piece and have just released their debut album, Stand Together.

This year’s castle concerts line up also includes Jools Holland, who returns to the Castle Gardens with his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra on Wednesday, 18 July, with a stellar line up of special guests, including soul star Ruby Turner and Roland Gift from the Fine Young Cannibals.

Newly reformed pop phenomenon Steps will perform at this year’s Castle Concerts, on Thursday, 19 July.  The band who sung their way to success in the 90s became a household name, capturing the hearts of fans all over the world with their dance routines and catchy songs before famously breaking up ten years ago.

And tickets have sold out for the fantastic Friday night Soul Party on 20 July, starring powerhouse singers Billy Ocean and Alexander O’Neal.
Tickets are £35 for Jools Holland and His Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, £35 for Steps, £30 for Soul Party, and £30 for Castle Proms.

Concert tickets are available in person at The Central Theatre Box Office, The Brook Theatre Box Office and Medway Visitor Information Centre, by phone on 01634 338338 or online at www.thecastleconcerts.co.uk
