One amazing unsigned band wanted to open Green Man

Once again Green Man is offering you and your band the gig of a lifetime – a unique chance to launch this year’s festival with a set on the Main Stage on Friday August 19.

Has your band got what it takes to share a bill with the stars and perform your songs in front of thousands of people? Can you handle the YouTube hits and media exposure from the most credible online battle of the bands?

If the answer is “yes”, then Green Man and some of the most influential names in the British record industry want to see you in action!

1. Any unsigned band or solo artist can enter Green Poll but they must be able to upload a video for one of their songs. This year’s competition will be run via Facebook - go here, click Green Poll and follow the simple instructions.

2. There will be two rounds of public voting. After the first round, the top 5 most popular bands will automatically go through to round two. Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens will then hand-pick a further five bands to join them in round two. These 10 bands will then face a second public vote to decide five lucky finalists.

3. The five most popular bands will then play live before a packed crowd and a prestigious judging panel including Mojo editor Phil Alexander, Moshi Moshi record label boss Stephen Bass, Domino Records A&R and Transparent Records label boss Jack Shankly and Bella Union A&R and label manager Mark Byrne. The best band on the night wins and gets to open Green Man Festival 2011!

WHAT’S THE CATCH?

Quite simply, there isn’t one.
Green Poll is a respected and credible competition that relies solely on word of mouth and record industry buzz, there is no sponsorship and no corporate tie-ins.

This year just one vote per person will be allowed in each round of public voting, so winning does mean winning. Green Poll really is all about Green Man’s unquenchable thirst for great new music.

What’s more, the winning act will get one complimentary ticket per band member for this year's Green Man.
