Swanage Blues Festival Autumn 2026

From 1st to 4th October 2026, the Swanage Blues Festival returns to the coastal town of Swanage, Dorset. This four-day event celebrates blues, roots, and soul music across multiple local venues.

Music

Enjoy around 75 performances in nearly 20 pubs, clubs, and halls featuring local bands, rising stars, and nationally acclaimed artists. The lineup includes blues-rock, acoustic folk-blues, country-blues, soul, jazz, and gospel influences.

Atmosphere

The festival offers a relaxed, community-driven vibe with no VIP zones or barriers. Daytime events are family-friendly, while evenings bring a lively blues experience for adults. The compact town setting makes it easy to explore multiple venues on foot.

Access & Support

Entry is via donation-based wristbands, available for single days or the entire weekend. Contributions support local pubs and musicians, helping to keep the festival affordable and sustainable.

By Train and Bus: The nearest railway station is Wareham, about 10 miles from Swanage. Regular South Western Railway trains run from London Waterloo to Wareham (via Southampton and Brockenhurst). From Wareham station, take the Purbeck Breezer bus (route 40) or a taxi straight to Swanage (journey about 20 minutes). For coach travel, National Express operates a daily service (035) from London Victoria to Swanage Bus Station. Swanage is also served by year-round local buses – the Purbeck Breezer network links the town with Bournemouth, Poole, Lulworth, and other Dorset destinations.

By Car: Swanage sits at the end of the A351 road on the Isle of Purbeck. If you’re driving from London or the east, follow the M3 and A31 west to Dorchester, then take the A351 south through Wareham to Swanage (signposted via Corfe Castle). From the west (e.g. Exeter, Cornwall), head east along the A30/A35 to Dorchester and join the A351 there. If coming from Bournemouth or Poole, consider using the Sandbanks Ferry at Shell Bay – this small car ferry crosses Poole Harbour and can save about 25 minutes compared to the longer road route. The ferry (toll applies) links the Sandbanks peninsular with Studland, just a short drive from Swanage.

By Air: The closest airport is Bournemouth International Airport (about 18 miles north of Swanage), with flights to many UK and European cities. Southampton Airport (around 50 miles) is another option for domestic and short-haul flights. London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports are approximately 100–130 miles away; from there you can rent a car or take the train to the south coast. If you arrive by ferry (e.g. from France or the Channel Islands), you’ll arrive at nearby Poole Harbour, and Swanage is just a short drive across the harbour by road or via the chain ferry.

Accommodation: Swanage offers a wide range of places to stay, from seaside hotels and charming B&Bs to self-catering cottages and campsites. Because the blues festival attracts many visitors, it’s wise to book your lodging well in advance. Popular Swanage accommodations fill up quickly, especially in October. Consider staying in family-run guesthouses by the beach or in peaceful countryside inns nearby. There are also camping and caravan parks in the area if you prefer an outdoor stay. Booking ahead ensures you can enjoy the festival without travel worries – whether you choose a cozy room overlooking the bay or a pitch in the Purbeck countryside, you’ll wake up ready for another day of music.
