Kennyfest Kennyfest

Kennyfest

Kenny Brown was a popular figure in the North East rock scene in the 80's and early 90's instantly reconisable by his meteor emblazoned wheelchair. Kenny had spina bifida but didn't allow that to effect his enjoyment of life and lived by going against adversity - he became one of the few disabled driving instructors in the UK.

A great lover of local band's he enjoyed nothing more than to see a local band come good and become a nationwide success. During the rock revolution of the early 80's Kenny was friends with many rock musicians who would go on to bigger stages in the rock world.

Kenny himself was a very talented bass player and was seen in several band's including 'Fair Haven' (pictured left with Kenny in the centre), 'Flying Out ...Your Butt' and 'Cap'n Flint'. Kenny and his fellow band members would gig throughout the North East of England throughout the 80's and 90's. Influenced by a wide range of bands, Kenny developed a reputation as a very good and very solid bass player.

Sadly in June 2006 Kenny passed away to join some of rocks greatest legends up at the great gig in the sky. It was decided that as a fitting tribute Kennyfest would be born.

Kenny's widow Melanie plays a major part in the organisation of Kennyfest and helps with its on going promotion throughout the course of the year and the lead up to the shows.
