Street food vendors provide a diverse selection of global cuisine, complemented by craft beers, cocktails and soft drinks served at pop-up bars. Picnic and lounge areas create a relaxed setting to enjoy the summer day between performances.
Atmosphere
Organised by the team behind London’s legendary Jazz Cafe club, the festival mirrors the club’s warm, inclusive community vibe. Expect high-quality performances, chance jam sessions, and a friendly environment where everyone is welcome to join the fun.
Burgess Park is well-served by public transit. The nearest Tube station is Elephant & Castle (Northern and Bakerloo lines), about 1.3 miles (roughly a 25-30 minute walk) north of the park on Albany Road (SE5 0AL). Stagecoach bus route 136 runs frequently from Elephant & Castle station and stops at Albany Road/Wells Way, right at the park entrance. Other buses (such as 63, 78 and 12) connect Elephant & Castle, Peckham and Camberwell with stops near Burgess Park. Elephant & Castle station also provides Thameslink and Southeastern train services toward London Bridge, from where you can transfer to the Northern line down to Elephant & Castle. For detailed planning, check the Transport for London (TfL) website or apps for real-time routes and schedules.
If you're flying in, all of London’s major airports connect to the city center. London City Airport is the closest (via the DLR to Canning Town and Jubilee Line to central London). From Heathrow Airport (west London), take the Heathrow Express or Piccadilly Line to Paddington, then change to the Bakerloo Line (via Oxford Circus) down to Elephant & Castle. From Gatwick Airport (south), use the Gatwick Express or Southern train to Victoria or Thameslink to London Bridge, and then transfer to the Tube (Victoria or Bakerloo lines) to Elephant & Castle. Stansted (north-east) and Luton (north-west) airports link via express trains to Liverpool Street and St Pancras, respectively, with onward connections by London's Underground. London City Airport (east London) provides a DLR ride to Canary Wharf and a quick Jubilee Line trip to the city center. Once at Elephant & Castle station, continue by bus 136 or a short walk to Burgess Park. Always allow plenty of travel time when coming via airports.
For drivers, Burgess Park is accessed via the A2 Old Kent Road or the A202 Camberwell New Road. Keep in mind this area falls within London's Congestion Charge and Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), which can incur fees. Parking near the park is very limited. If choosing to drive, consider parking in a designated lot or garage near Elephant & Castle or Canada Water and taking public transit the rest of the way. Elephant & Castle (SE1) has some multi-story car parks. London traffic can be heavy, especially on weekends and evenings, so allow extra time. Alternatively, cycling is a great option: dedicated cycle lanes lead directly into Burgess Park and bike racks are available on-site. Taxis or ride-shares should be dropped off at Albany Road or Wells Way by the park entrance.
There is no on-site camping; visitors should book hotels or other accommodation in London. The Elephant & Castle area itself (SE1) offers a variety of hotels and hostels at different price points. Nearby neighborhoods like Southwark, Borough, Walworth or Canary Wharf also have lodging and are just a short Tube or bus ride away. Staying in Zone 1/2 areas will give you plenty of options and easy access: for example, staying near London Bridge or Waterloo gives a quick Underground trip to Elephant & Castle. Booking early is advisable, since summer weekends in London fill up fast. Check the distance and transit connections from your lodging to Burgess Park when making preparations.
