Copmanthorpe Carnival Copmanthorpe Carnival

Copmanthorpe Carnival

Copmanthorpe Carnival was originally established to raise funds to create a recreation centre for Copmanthorpe and the surrounding area. Now that the Recreation Centre is established, why are they still raising money and what are we spending it on?

The Recreation Centre is a registered Charity, number 503007.  Its objectives are to create and maintain a centre offering full recreational activities to the general public in Copmanthorpe and district and to encourage the enjoyment by the public of the facilities.

They receive assistance with some costs in the form of grants from the Parish Council; user groups are charged an annual fee and the Sports and Social Club pays rent for the building they use but we receive no funding from the City of York Council so they rely on the Carnival for the bulk of our funding.

They provide a sports field for football and cricket and informal recreation, as well as for the Carnival. There are three tennis courts, one of which is also marked for netball, a bowling green and children’s playground. In addition, they have built a clubhouse, a sports hall (about to undergo works to extend its usefulness) and changing rooms. They also host the Scout HQ and a childcare nursery.
