Black Deer in the City is an exciting new urban festival bringing country music and culture into the heart of London. This two-day event will take place on 25–26 October 2025 at the historic Tobacco Dock in East London, transforming the waterfront venue into a lively Southern-style celebration. Created by the team behind the acclaimed Black Deer countryside festival, it keeps the same laid-back, family-friendly vibe that fans love. Expect friendly crowds, boots on the dance floor, and live music filling the air from morning until night. Tobacco Dock’s old brick warehouses and cobbled courtyards will be decorated in rustic flair, creating a unique urban wilderness where city energy meets country charm.

Music lovers will be in their element with an eclectic lineup spanning Americana, folk, country, and roots rock. Multiple stages will fill Tobacco Dock’s halls and open-air courtyards, so there’s always something to see. Whether you crave rowdy bluegrass jams or mellow acoustic singer-songwriter sets, the festival will deliver live music around the clock. The organizers pride themselves on mixing headline acts with rising stars, staying true to Black Deer’s ethos of supporting both established and emerging talent. You might catch electric guitar riffs on one stage and an old-time fiddle on another – either way, be prepared to tap your feet to banjos, fiddles and slide guitars under festoon lights all weekend long.

For food and drink, this festival delivers real Southern flavor. Street-food vendors and pitmasters will serve up mouthwatering barbecue – smoky ribs, pulled pork, brisket and more – just like you’d find in Tennessee. There will be live cooking demos by celebrated chefs and BBQ experts, so you can watch (and taste!) perfect slow-smoking techniques in action. If you’re brave enough, try your luck at the spicy-food challenges like a chilli-eating contest or a giant hot-dog competition – it’s all part of the fun. Multiple bars scattered around the site will pour craft beers, cider and local ales, along with flights of bourbon and Tennessee whiskey for those who want a true taste of the South. Creative cocktails (think mint juleps or peach punch) and sweet non-alcoholic beverages will keep everyone refreshed. In short, this is a feast for the senses – tantalizing smells and bold flavors that perfectly complement the music.

But the festival isn’t just about music and BBQ – there’s entertainment around every corner. Expect live demonstrations and interactive experiences throughout the weekend. Browse pop-up markets filled with cowboy hats, artisan crafts and vintage western wear. Cheer on friends in fun contests like a chilli or hot dog eating competition, or learn a new skill at a line-dancing workshop or even a jam-circle music session. There will even be a tattoo parlour for on-site ink souvenirs. Kids and families are very welcome, with arts-and-crafts tents and games areas so little ones can get involved. True to Black Deer’s community spirit, friends and strangers alike often come together around makeshift firepits or shared picnic tables for impromptu sing-alongs. It all adds up to a lively, inclusive atmosphere where everyone can find something to enjoy.

There’s nothing else like experiencing rural Americana in a London setting, and Tobacco Dock provides the perfect backdrop. Located on the river in Wapping, its historic brick warehouses and open courtyards create an atmospheric space that complements the rustic theme. In daylight, music streams through skylights and open doors; by night, festoon lights and lanterns glow over the cobblestones. The mix of indoor and outdoor areas means the party goes on rain or shine. You might sip your drink by the water’s edge or spot a DJ spinning folk tunes in a cozy corner. Plus, Tobacco Dock is easy to reach via public transport (just a few minutes’ walk from Wapping Overground or Shadwell DLR), so you can enjoy the weekend without worrying about logistics.

At its heart, Black Deer in the City is about community, music and fun. Imagine dancing with new friends to a fiddle tune, swapping festival stories over barbecue, or toasting drinks at a late-night firepit—these are the moments this event aims to create. Whether you’re a veteran country music fan or just curious to try something new, you’ll find a warm welcome here. With so much going on over the two days, it’s easy to fill every moment with something memorable. So get your boots on and mark your calendar: come October, London’s East End will truly feel like country-style party central. Black Deer in the City is the perfect excuse to enjoy great music, good food and even better company.

London’s public transport makes getting to the festival easy. If you’re coming by train, you can arrive at almost any major London station (Euston, King’s Cross, Liverpool Street, London Bridge, Paddington, Victoria, etc.) from across the UK or Europe. From there, switch to local trains or Tube: the closest stations to Tobacco Dock are Wapping (Overground’s East London Line) and Shadwell (DLR or Overground). Tower Hill station (Circle and District Lines) and Tower Gateway (DLR) are also within a short walk. Frequent buses also serve Wapping, but trains and Tube are often faster. Remember to use an Oyster or contactless card for the best fares, and check the Transport for London (TfL) website or app for live travel updates. Using public transit will save you time and help avoid central London traffic.

For those flying in, London City Airport is the closest – about a 15-minute taxi or DLR ride from the venue – and it offers many domestic and European flights. From the larger airports, you have good options too: Gatwick Airport’s express train takes you to Victoria Station in about 30 minutes, then a short Tube or bus ride will bring you east. Stansted has the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street, and Luton has Thameslink services to King’s Cross; from there you can hop on the Overground to Wapping. Heathrow Airport connects via the Elizabeth Line or Heathrow Express into central London, then easy Underground or DLR routes eastbound. Southend Airport has a train to Liverpool Street as well. Plan a little extra travel time on weekends, as trains and roads can be busy.

If you’re driving, note that Wapping lies just outside the congestion charge zone and well inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), so check charges if your car is older. Main road routes into East London include the A13, A2 and A12; you might come through the Blackwall or Rotherhithe Tunnels from the south or via Tower Bridge from the west. Traffic can be heavy, so allow extra time. Parking near Tobacco Dock itself is very limited and expensive – many visitors choose to park farther out (for example, near a Tube or rail station) and take public transport in. If you do drive in, research and book a nearby car park in advance (areas like Canary Wharf or Tower Hill have options). Taxis and ride-shares can also drop you at the venue, but be aware of surge pricing during busy festival times.

London has a wide range of accommodation options to suit every budget. For convenience, look for hotels or guesthouses near Tower Hill, Aldgate or Canary Wharf – these neighborhoods offer quick subway or DLR rides to the festival. Shoreditch and Spitalfields are also popular areas with many mid-range and boutique hotels, and they’re just a short Tube or Overground ride away. Apartments and B&Bs are plentiful in East London as well, if you prefer a homier stay. Keep in mind that October weekends can be busy, so it’s wise to book your lodging early. Wherever you stay, you’ll find the Tube, Overground and DLR will get you to Wapping quickly – leaving you more time to explore London’s sights around the festival visit.
