Western Addiction
Western Addiction is a punk band from San Francisco, United States. Formed in 2003, the group plays melodic hardcore and punk and remains active.
Background
The band forms from four veterans of the punk scene who want to return to a harder, less fragmented version of punk rock. All four members work for Fat Wreck Chords, where they meet, and each is involved in punk music and labels in different ways. Jason is the only member not described as having been in, or being in, other bands.
Western Addiction works with a practical, scene-based approach, with members attending shows and supporting other punk acts. This experience also helps them book or share bills with groups such as TSOL, The Adicts, The Adolescents, and the Swingin’ Utters.
Releases and collaborations
The band’s first full-length album is Cognicide, which is its third release overall. Before that, it issues the 7-inch Remember to Dismember on Fat Wreck Chords, then a split 12-inch EP with New Mexican Disaster Squad on No Idea, and later contributes a song to Protect: A Benefit for the National Association to Protect Children.
Touring and activity
Western Addiction tours in support of NOFX in Japan and later travels along the California coast with Propagandhi. The band also plays in a range of small and informal settings, including backyard parties, basements, art galleries, and community spaces.
