Wallows

Wallows are an alternative rock band from Los Angeles. The group forms in 2017 and is active from then to the present, with a lineup that includes Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters, Cole Preston and Zack Mendenhall. Their sound spans alternative rock, indie pop, indie rock and pop rock.

Formation and early releases

The band begins releasing music independently in April 2017 with “Pleaser”, which reaches number two on the Spotify Global Viral 50 chart and number one on the KROQ Locals Only playlist. Their second single, “Sun Tan”, follows in May 2017, when they also start playing live shows around Los Angeles and sell out The Roxy and the Troubadour. “Uncomfortable” arrives in September 2017, and “Pulling Leaves off Trees” premieres later that year on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show.

In November 2017, Wallows announce their first headline North American tour, which runs from January to March 2018 and begins in San Francisco.

Atlantic Records and Spring

In February 2018, the band signs to Atlantic Records and prepares its major-label debut EP, Spring. The single “Pictures of Girls” is released as the first song under Atlantic and is chosen as a Critical Cut by SiriusXM Alt Nation. Spring is released in April 2018.

Nothing Happens

Wallows release “Are You Bored Yet?” in February 2019 as the lead single from their debut album, Nothing Happens. The track features Clairo, and its video includes cameo appearances from Noah Centineo and The Regrettes. The video is nominated for an MTV Video Music Award in the Best Push Performance of the Year category. The song becomes a 2× platinum single in the United States and is the band’s first platinum-certified release.

Nothing Happens follows in March 2019. It receives generally positive reviews, reaches number 75 on the US Billboard 200, and places at number 8 on the Billboard Alternative Albums chart and number 13 on the Billboard Rock Albums chart. “Scrawny” and “Sidelines” are also issued as singles from the album.

Remote and later releases

In 2020, Wallows release “OK” in March and “Nobody Gets Me (Like You)” in September, the latter arriving with the announcement of their second major EP, Remote. The EP is released in October 2020. A deluxe edition follows in February 2021, alongside “Quarterback”. The deluxe set adds two new tracks, includes the earlier single “OK” and a remix of that song featuring Remi Wolf and Solomonophonic, and marks Cole Preston’s debut as a solo vocalist for the band.

“I Don't Want to Talk” is released in September 2021 and serves as the lead single from the band’s second album, Tell Me That It’s Over, which arrives in March 2022. Wallows tour the album through 2022 and into 2023.

Model

Wallows release “Your Apartment” in February 2024, followed by “Calling After Me” in March and “A Warning” in May. These singles lead into their third studio album, Model, released in May 2024. The band starts the Model Tour in August 2024 and ends the run in London in October. A North American extension titled Model and More is announced for early 2025.

Influences

The band cites Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, The Libertines, Arcade Fire, Kanye West and The Smiths as influences.
