Twenty One Pilots is an American musical group from Columbus, Ohio, active since 2009. It begins as a trio formed by Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas and Chris Salih, before Thomas and Salih leave in 2011. Since then, the group consists of Joseph and drummer Josh Dun. The act appears in stylised lowercase as twenty øne piløts.

The group works across alternative hip hop, alternative pop, alternative rock, electropop, hip hop and indie pop. It signs to Fueled by Ramen in 2012 after releasing its first two albums independently: Twenty One Pilots in 2009 and Regional at Best in 2011. Its label debut is Vessel in 2013.

Twenty One Pilots is best known for the singles “Stressed Out”, “Ride” and “Heathens”. Blurryface in 2015 is the group’s breakthrough album and produces “Stressed Out” and “Ride”. The song “Heathens” also gives the group a notable chart milestone, with the act becoming the first alternative artist to have two concurrent top-five singles on the Billboard Hot 100.

The group receives the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards for “Stressed Out”. It also becomes the first band in music history to see every song on two albums earn gold or platinum awards, following the certification performance of Vessel and Blurryface. Across its catalogue, the band releases eight full-length studio albums, including Trench (2018), Scaled and Icy (2021), Clancy (2024) and Breach (2025). It also earns ten number one songs on the Alternative Songs chart.
