T.Rextasy

T.Rextasy are a glam rock tribute band devoted to Marc Bolan and T. Rex. They make their debut on 18 September 1992 at a small club in Hackney, East London, where the show sells out and attracts both long-time and new T. Rex followers, including former T. Rex drummer Bill Legend.

Style and approach

The group are known for performing as a live band without samplers, backing tapes or wigs, and they are presented as distinct from cabaret-style tribute acts. Their performances rest on close study of the original material, stage manner and an attention to the sound and look associated with Bolan. The lead singer is noted for a voice and appearance that closely resemble Marc Bolan.

Repertoire and live shows

T.Rextasy build their sets around T. Rex songs, particularly the band’s Top 20 hits. Their regular song list includes Metal Guru, Jeepster, Telegram Sam, Hot Love, Children of the Revolution, Ride a White Swan, Get It On, I Love to Boogie, New York City, The Groover, Solid Gold Easy Action and 20th Century Boy. They perform both headline and support sets, with club and rock venue shows running for around 80 to 90 minutes, and theatre shows including an electric set, an acoustic and congas section, and a second electric set of rock songs.

Touring and appearances

The band gain respect from Bolan’s contemporaries and tour with artists including Gary Glitter, Roy Wood, The Sweet, Slade, Ian Hunter and Status Quo. They also appear at glam rock nostalgia events and with indie acts such as Dodgy at the Phoenix Festival. Other festival appearances include the Midtfyns Festival in Denmark, where they share a bill with Blur and Iron Maiden, and a summer 1997 show with Status Quo at Rugen Island in Germany.

The group are described as a definitive T. Rex experience for the 21st century and as one of the most acclaimed tribute bands in their field.
