Throwing Snow is the recording name of London-based musician Ross Tones, who produces electronic music with influences from dubstep, UK funky, house and post-rock. His work is associated with a sound described through contrasts of warmth and a colder, glistening texture.

Career

Throwing Snow emerges with a debut release on Alex Nut’s Ho_Tep label in late 2010. After that, he receives remix commissions for artists including Gold Panda, Kidkanevil and Greymatter. His music also receives radio support from Gilles Peterson and Benji B, and he appears as a guest on Sinden’s Kiss FM show and on Ministry of Sound.

In 2011, Tones starts two labels, Left_Blank and Snow Fall. Snow Fall releases his own Un Vingt / Cronos Remixed, which is described as an acclaimed release. He also releases material on Raffertie’s Super imprint alongside vocalist PY, and on Jamie Russell’s Sneaker Social Club.

Releases and collaborations

Throwing Snow works on remixes for Domino and Ninja Tune, and also has a release planned for Local Action. His collaborations and label work place him within a wider UK electronic network that includes producers, vocalists and specialist independent imprints.

Style

His productions draw on dubstep and broader electronic music, while also taking in UK funky, house and post-rock. The resulting music is presented as both warm and icy in tone.
