The Fierce & The Dead
The Fierce & The Dead is a London group active since 2010. The line-up includes Matt Stevens, Kev Feazey, Stuart Marshall and Steve Cleaton. The band develops around the work of Stevens on guitars, Feazey on bass and Marshall on drums, and it forms out of a recording session that was originally intended for a Matt Stevens solo release.
Background and formation
The group begins as a trio of long-time collaborators who have played together for more than ten years and also support each other in other bands and as solo performers. After the session that was meant for a Stevens solo album, they decide to continue as a separate band with its own identity and sound.
Releases and style
In 2010, the band releases a 19-minute EP titled Part 1. Its first full-length album, If It Carries On Like This We Are Moving To Morecambe, follows in 2011. Their music combines post-rock with atmospheric passages, prominent guitars, quieter sections, sudden shifts, and heavier material. The band is also associated with garage rock, instrumental music, math rock, progressive metal, progressive rock and psychedelic rock.
Reception
Both Part 1 and If It Carries On Like This We Are Moving To Morecambe receive positive attention from listeners and press, and the band continues along that path as an instrumental-oriented post-rock and progressive rock group.
