The Eddies

The Eddies are a power pop group from the United States. They are built around brothers Dean Hoth and Dale Hoth, with Dean on lead vocals and bass and Dale on backing vocals and guitars. Their sound draws on punk, post-punk, surf and power pop, while also reflecting mod influences and a strong interest in melody and classic songcraft.

Early releases and sound

The group releases its first album, In The Sunshine, in 2004. That record features original material and includes songs such as “All Alone” and “Life Could Be So Good”. It receives favourable press and airplay in 23 countries, including the United States, Yugoslavia, England, France, Germany, Scotland, Portugal, Spain and Australia. The recordings also begin a long working relationship with producer Earle Mankey.

EPs, compilations and covers

In 2006, The Eddies issue the EP Modern Music for Modern Times. Through 2007, tracks by the band appear on several compilation albums, including News of the World MKII with “Queen of Hearts”, plus tribute albums to Neil Diamond with “Sweet Caroline” and to Squire with “Debbie Jones”. “Debbie Jones” becomes a top ten hit on Mod Radio UK.

In 2008, the band releases Twice Around the World, a sophomore record made up of eleven cover versions of songs from the early 1980s. The album includes material associated with Squire, Manual Scan, The Risk, The Jetset, Chardon Square, The Little Murders and The Times.

Later activity

By 2010, The Eddies release the single “I Want You And I Want You”. Their tracks continue to appear on tribute albums, and they also work on new versions of “Debbie Jones” and “Don’t Know Where To Start”, the latter originally by Manual Scan and recorded as a duet with Mark Le Gallez. Earle Mankey provides drums on the group’s most recent studio recordings, while several different drummers have handled live shows since the band begins.

Other projects mentioned for the band include a third release called Return, along with plans for a concept album and a Christmas album.
