Teebee, also known as DJ Teebee, is the recording name of Torgeir Byrknes, a Norwegian drum and bass DJ and producer from Bergen. He begins DJing in 1990 and releases his first record in 1996.

Style and sound

Teebee’s music sits within drum and bass and is often described as neurofunk or techstep. His work is marked by dark, futuristic and science-fiction-influenced themes, while also carrying a deeper ambient and atmospheric quality than much of the genre. His early releases show an acknowledged stylistic debt to Photek.

Career and labels

He is one of the first drum and bass producers from outside the UK to reach the top tier of the scene. Early in his career, he is most closely linked with the Certificate 18 label, alongside Photek and the Norwegian producer Polar. After Certificate 18 ends, he is most associated with his own label, Subtitles.

Award

Teebee wins the Knowledge Magazine award for Best International Producer in 2001.
