Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster are a London group who make conceptual rock music with metal leanings. They form in 2008 and work in a mostly instrumental style, drawing on old school rock, heavy metal, stoner rock and modern progressive elements. The band describes its aim as creating epic soundtracks for terrible events.

Style and sound

The group’s music is intense, moody, heavy and sombre, with long instrumental passages and riffs as a central feature. Vocals play a secondary role. Their sound is technical and complex, but also includes softer, elegant passages, leaping guitar solos and a thick, warm production that adds a stoner-sludge feel. It sits somewhere between progressive metal, post-metal and post-rock, while remaining difficult to place neatly in one category.

Releases

The band’s first album, Collapse, appears in 2009 as an all-instrumental release. It receives praise from Rocksound, which calls it “bruising in the best way possible”. Their second album, Exegesis, follows in 2012. The record includes tracks such as “Fractal World”, “Exegesis”, “Calligraphy” and “Black Iron Prison”, and is noted for shifting from quiet guitar pieces to large, dense walls of sound.
