Szun Waves

Szun Waves

Szun Waves is a London-based group that forms in 2016 and remains active. It brings together electronic producer Luke Abbott, saxophonist Jack Wyllie and drummer Laurence Pike. Abbott also runs Buffalo Temple Records.

Members and setup

The trio come from different musical backgrounds and build their music around a combination of modular synthesis, drums and saxophone. Abbott plays modular synth, Pike plays drums and Wyllie plays saxophone. Wyllie is also associated with Portico, and Pike with PVT.

Music and releases

The group works across ambient, electronic, experimental electronic, jazz and psychedelic styles. Its sound is described in terms of free jazz and psychedelic textures, and its early work involves the challenge of coordinating analogue hardware with live performance.

Its debut album, At Sacred Walls, is recorded at the studio of British electronic artist James Holden and takes its title from that studio. The album is released on Buffalo Temple Records. The follow-up, New Hymn To Freedom, is issued through The Leaf Label. The third album, Earth Patterns, is released in 2022.
