Suns of the Tundra
Suns of the Tundra are a progressive rock and progressive metal group with alternative rock and hard rock elements. The band develops out of the early 1990s prog-tinged hard rock band Peach, and its sound is compared with 1990s-era Tool while also retaining its own identity.
Line-up and background
The group’s core members are Simon Oakes, Andrew Prestidge, Andy Marlow and Mark Moloney. The band is also associated with Justin Chancellor, who leaves the project to join MJK’s platinum-selling band, but whose bass style remains strongly present in Suns of the Tundra’s music. Their sound also includes contributions from Rob Havis and Andy Marlow, with the band presenting a mix that is distinct from both Tool and Peach.
Musical style
The band’s music is described as being saturated with Chancellor’s bass lines, but not as a direct imitation of Tool. Instead, Suns of the Tundra combine influences from their earlier Peach period with heavier progressive rock and metal tendencies, along with their own stylistic differences.
