There are at least three artists using the name SMG: 1) SMG (Secular Music Group) are a Chicago based jazz band. The project emerged from the home workshop of Christian Ruggiero, a renowned composer for film and television with a passion for classic recordings and legacy studio technology. He teamed up with long-time collaborator and multi-instrumentalist Yannis Panos to make a music channeling their shared interests in free-jazz, library music and American minimalism. The group was made whole by the additions of guitarist Ted Morcaldi, reedist Greg Lapine and percussionist Tim Walsh. 2) SMG (Selfmadegod) are a flithy noisegrind band from Shah Alam City, Malaysia. The band has had many varying lineups, but always retaining drummer Randy Husni. 3) SMG, real name Jamie Le Brocq, is a jump-up drum and bass producer from Bristol, UK. His signature sound—heavy, marauding, and deep—has made waves across various platforms, and his ever-expanding catalog has made him one of the most exciting and talked-about artists in 2024. SMG’s run of releases in 2024 was nothing short of impressive, with standout tracks landing on labels like Critical Music, MODUS, VISION and Overview Music.
