Saul Williams

Saul Williams is a poet, actor, rapper, singer and musician from Newburgh, United States. Born in 1972, he works across alternative hip hop, poetry and spoken word, and is known for combining these forms in his performances and recordings.

Work in music and film

He is best known for his role in the independent film Slam, which helps establish his profile beyond music. In touring, he gains further recognition while supporting Nine Inch Nails on parts of their 2005-2006 run.

As a recording artist, Williams releases six albums: Amethyst Rock Star, Saul Williams, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation Of Niggy Tardust, Volcanic Sunlight, MartyrLoserKing and Encrypted & Vulnerable. His third album, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation Of Niggy Tardust, is produced by Trent Reznor and released through the internet, with a sound described through a mix of industrial and hip-hop elements.

Writing

Williams also publishes four books of poetry: The Seventh Octave, S/he, ,said the shotgun to the head. and The Dead Emcee Scrolls.
