Riot Horse

Riot Horse is a heavy rock group from Skåne, Sweden. The band plays classic rock and heavy blues rock with psychedelic rock, hard rock and blues rock influences, and is described as drawing on the sound of 1970s rock.

Background

The project begins in 2006 after the Danish/Swedish band Sons Of Tomorrow takes a long break. Guitarist Nille “Neil” Schüttman wants to form a new heavy rock band with a more classic sound, inspired by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Free and The Black Crowes. He brings together musicians for jam sessions, including some former Sons Of Tomorrow members and some new collaborators, and the material develops into a permanent band rather than a temporary project.

Line-up

By 2011 the line-up settles with Andreas Sydow on vocals, Nille “Neil” Schüttman on guitar, Jonas Langebro on drums, and Joacim Sandin on bass. Sydow is formerly the metal vocalist of Darkane. Langebro is formerly a member of Bai Bang, and Sandin previously plays in Bai Bang with Langebro. Anders Johansson appears on bass in an earlier stage of the band before Sandin joins.

Sound

The band’s style centres on bluesy, groovy and heavy riffing, combining classic heavy rock songcraft with a direct, hard-edged feel. Its material is shaped by Schüttman’s long-developed riffs and Sydow’s vocal melodies, which are described as blending strongly during rehearsals as the group finds its final sound.
