Rain

Rain is a name used by several recording acts and solo artists. In the most prominent case here, it refers to Jung Ji-hoon, better known as Rain, a South Korean singer, songwriter, dancer, actor and record producer. He is born in 1982 and makes his solo debut in 2002 with the album N001. His output includes seven albums in total, made up of six Korean releases and one Japanese release, along with 28 singles and concert touring in multiple countries. His third Korean album, It’s Raining, brings him wider attention in 2004 and includes the title track, which reaches number one and helps establish him internationally.

Rain also names a Washington, D.C. emo/post-hardcore band active from the mid-1980s, which records demos before appearing on the 1989 compilation Worlds at War and later issues the six-track La vache qui rit 12-inch EP on Peterbilt Records. Its line-up includes Eli Janney on drums, Jon K. on vocals and guitar, Scott McCloud on guitar and vocals, and Bert Queiroz on bass.

Another Rain is a Swiss metal band formed in 1997 by guitarist and programmer Drop C. Its sound combines industrial, black metal and dark metal. Drop C records the instrumental demo Shadows at the age of 13, then works with singer Sin on the first album Sephiroths. The line-up later expands with Blast on second guitar and Scowl on bass for Natural Order, after which the band tours in Switzerland and France. In late 2001 the group composes its third album Starlight Extinction; Sin leaves in 2002 and the band ends in 2004.

An English progressive rock artist called Rain releases music freely online and has one full album, Cerulean Blue from 2004. The album is described as a progressive and orchestral rock opera with seven tracks narrated by Rob Brown, who appears in the BBC adaptation of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. It also features saxophonist Iain Ballamy, who wins the BBC Award for Innovation in Jazz. The album presents the story of a young man’s journey across America and is compared stylistically with Pink Floyd, Sigur Rós and Peter Gabriel.

Rain is also the name of an improvised group from New Zealand made up of Danny Butt, Kim Pieters and Peter Stapleton. The trio uses acoustic bass, guitar and percussion in an organic, clattering style and has a line-up close to Flies Inside The Sun, minus Brian Crook of the Renderers. It releases Sediment in 1995 and Sycamore in 1997 on the Metonymic label.
