Neverdogs
Neverdogs are an Italian house and tech house group formed in 2000 by Marko Kay (Marco De Gregorio), Tommy Paone (Tommaso Paone) and DJ Giò Galvagno. Marco De Gregorio is born in 1980 and Tommaso Paone is born in 1976, both in Catanzaro, Italy. Before the group forms, De Gregorio and Paone begin listening to and DJing a range of music from the age of 14, and each develops different professional experience before they meet in Florence in 1999.
Formation and early work
After meeting, De Gregorio and Paone start playing at Central Park and organising after-hours events at Mareseis in Florence between 1999 and 2000. In 2000 they join with Giò Galvagno to create Neverdogs, performing as a live DJ set with three consoles and video projections. That format helps establish their profile with club organisers and audiences in Italy and elsewhere in Europe.
Residencies and performances
In 2003, De Gregorio and Paone begin working with DOCSHOW at Chalet delle Rose in Bologna, at the Peter Pan club in Riccione, and at Tenax in Florence, and they become residents at those venues. They remain residents at DOCSHOW. In the summer of 2006 they also become residents at Space on Saturday nights. They play private parties in Ibiza and perform at Underground and on the Ibiza radio show Sonica. They also appear in the London underground scene through ReTOX parties and EGG club.
Sound and collaborators
The group’s sound centres on house music and incorporates minimal, deep and techno influences, with driving rhythms and melodic elements. Their first four productions are made with musician Alessio Monizza. In 2003 they set up Secret Studio with DJ and violinist Julie Marghilano and producer and musician Davide Ruberto, and continue to produce varied tracks there.
Neverdogs’ projects draw appreciation from artists including Steve Lawler, Satoshi Tomiie, G Pal, Stylophonic, Alex Neri, Ricky Montanari and Ralf.
