Marshall Jefferson
Marshall Jefferson is a house music producer and DJ associated with Chicago house, deep house and EDM. He is born in 1959 and is connected with Chicago and Manchester. He works in the development of house music, especially the Chicago form of the genre.
Career
He begins as a producer at Universal recording studios in Chicago, where he meets Larry Sherman, the owner of Trax Records. He becomes one of the key figures in early house music and is associated with the invention of the squelchy acid house sound.
His work includes tracks such as “Dream Girl” and “Acid Tracks”, which are linked to that acid house style. He also has an important role on the more soulful end of house music, producing for Ce Ce Rogers and Sterling Void, and working on the first two albums by Ten City.
Recordings and affiliations
His track “Move Your Body” appears in the video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on the House Music radio station SF-UR. He is also linked with the acts On the House, The Truth and Mood Life, and with the labels Virgo One Publishing and Helix Records.
