Kid Flicks
Kid Flicks is the plunderphonic pop project of producer, songwriter and artist Nickos Dervisis. The project explores dense sample-based production, pop harmonies, world music and eccentric sound design, with a sound that draws on electronic music, pop and indie pop.
Releases and labels
Since 2011, Kid Flicks has released two albums on Inner Ear Records and an EP on Bad Panda Records. These recordings are made on Dervisis’s MacBook while he travels around Greece and Europe. The project’s self-titled album is released on Klik Records and distributed by wordandsound Records.
Live setup and development
Kid Flicks initially performs as a solo project. In 2013, Dervisis forms an elastic live ensemble of one to four performers to expand the live show. This setup places emphasis on the interaction between electronics and live drums and percussion, and it becomes the creative base for the next album.
Style and influences
The project is shaped by multiculturalism and internet culture. Its music combines upbeat pop melodies, explosive percussion and layered harmonies, while also drawing on a range of genres and styles. The project is associated with Greece.
