Jinja Safari are an Australian indie group formed in 2010 by Marcus Azon and Cameron Pepa Knight. The line-up later expands to include Alister ‘Nugget’ Roach, Joe Citizen and Jacob Borg. The group is based in Australia and is active from 2010 to 2016.

History

Jinja Safari first gains wider attention in Australia after winning Triple J’s Unearthed competition in 2010. The original duo are also reported to have previously been half of Modern Joy with members of Sea Legs; Byron Knight, the vocalist of Sea Legs, is Pepa Knight’s brother.

Style and influences

The group’s sound is described as forest rock and indie pop, with comparisons made to Animal Collective, Sufjan Stevens and Sigur Rós.
