Jerome Isma-Ae
Jerome Isma-Ae is a Munich-born DJ and producer with Thai roots, associated with trance, techno, progressive house, house, ambient, chillout, downtempo and lounge. He works from München and Houston.
Early background
He attends a musical elementary school and starts composing on piano at an early age. He later plays bass in a heavy metal band at school. His first tracks appear in 1994, including “Under 100Hz”, released on the techno label Delirium.
DJ and production career
In the same year as his first release, he performs his first live act at a rave alongside Masters at Work and begins DJing. He goes on to release close to 100 productions and to remix artists from many countries. He releases material on underground labels including Armada, Baroque, Hope and his own Jee-Productions, as well as on major labels such as Universal, Ministry of Sound UK and Sony, often through compilation albums.
He is the first German to produce tracks for the US label Strictly Rhythm, working there as Future Funk with Marcel Krieg. His project names also include ACME, Players Inc., OJ Vantage, Remote Control, The Stream and Dolce & Cubana.
Key releases and projects
In 2001, he writes his first film soundtrack for the German movie 100 Pro, directed by Simon Verhoeven. In 2002, his remix of Nightcrawlers’ “Push The Feeling On” reaches number one on the US Billboard Dance Charts. His remix of JCA’s “Someday” reaches number one on Beatport in 2004.
He founds Jee Productions in 2005 and defines a distinctive progressive tribal sound through the label. 2007 is a particularly productive year for him, with several releases reaching the Beatport Top 20 and many entering the Top 10, including “Phantom”, the remix of “Enjoy the Silence”, and “fivefivezero”, made with Moldan under the project Moldan & Isma-Ae on Nick Warren’s Hope Recordings.
Collaborations and recognition
Jerome Isma-Ae receives support from artists including Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Tiesto, Deep Dish, Chus & Ceballos, Ferry Corsten, Nick Warren and Hernan Cattaneo. He also works with Tom Novy on remixes for Stereoproductions, Armada and Joia. His remix of Harada & Moldan’s “Fortune Cookie” is played by Tiesto on Clublife.
He is known for energetic, propulsive DJ sets and productions and performs internationally.
