Housse De Racket is a French indie and electronic duo from Chaville, France, active since 2005. The group consists of Pierre Leroux and Victor le Masne, who meet as children in the mid-1990s in the orchestra of the local conservatoire in Chaville. Their early connection grows out of a shared interest in rock music, including a conversation that begins after one of them wears a Pearl Jam T-shirt and leads to discussion of Eddie Vedder and Kurt Cobain.

Style and concept

The duo builds its identity around a tennis and sports theme, treating the project as a kind of musical match. Their name develops from the phrase “let’s racket the house”, later becoming Housse de Racket. They describe themselves through imagery of polos, rackets and guitars, and frame the act as a mix of love songs, sport references and pop music.

Early project and first releases

After the French touch era, Leroux and le Masne begin working on a concept rock opera called Melody Nelson Monfort. In this project, they create the characters Vico Vix and Repi Rep, two tennis stars, with a storyline centred on Repi Rep’s love for Gwendoline. Their first single, titled Housse de racket, is presented as the “overhead smash” song from this concept, combining vintage synths, funk-influenced pop guitar and a playful but carefully arranged style.

Recognition and collaborations

The group’s music attracts interest from artists including Fugu, Benjamin Diamond, Flairs, Brigitte Fontaine, Alex Gopher, Tekilatex, Darkel and Phoenix. Their work is described as finely tuned pop, with an emphasis on melody, humour and ambition rather than a purely conceptual joke.
