Honour Before Glory

Honour Before Glory is the solo project of whiskas, known for work with ¡Forward, Russia! and Dance To The Radio. It is based in Leeds and is presented as a project made entirely by whiskas, with the album this is broken lines produced there and shaped over several years of writing, experimenting and learning to work without other band members.

Recording and collaborators

The record includes additional contributions from friends connected with I Like Trains, Duels, and Shut Your Eyes & You'll Burst Into Flames. It is also mastered by Tom from Forward Russia. The project develops from the experience of making music alone, balancing the freedom and limits of having no one else to rely on in the process.

Style and reception

Honour Before Glory is associated with moody, intense soundscapes and melody-driven songs. The project receives comparisons with M83, Wolf Parade and My Bloody Valentine, and its music is noted by Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens. The tracks Maison and Breaker are singled out in commentary on the release, with Maison described as synth-led and Breaker as especially forceful.

Press comments

The project also draws praise for its approach and has been described as showing “genre-defying bravery” in review coverage.
