Employed To Serve

Employed To Serve are a British mathcore and metalcore band from Woking, Surrey. They form in 2011, led by Justine Jones on vocals and Sammy Urwin on guitar and vocals. The rest of the lineup joins in 2012: James Jackson on guitar, Jamie Venning on bass, and Robbie Back on drums.

Career and recordings

The band build a reputation for chaotic live performances before signing to Holy Roar Records, which releases their debut album, Greyer Than You Remember, in 2015. They then move towards a heavier sound on The Warmth of a Dying Sun in 2017. Their third album, Eternal Forward Motion, leans further into doom and sludge influences, with much of it written in drop G tuning and Jones adapting her vocals into a lower register. That album appears in 2019 through Spinefarm Records, the label they are signed to. The band follow it with Conquering in 2021 and Fallen Star in 2025.
