Chris Robinson Brotherhood

Chris Robinson Brotherhood is a United States blues rock group that begins in 2010 and remains active. It is led by Chris Robinson, best known as the singer of The Black Crowes, and forms while that band is on hiatus. The group’s line-up includes Chris Robinson, Mark “Muddy” Dutton, Tony Leone, Adam MacDougall and Neal Casal.

Formation and early activity

The project emerges in late 2010, when a website for Chris Robinson’s new band appears and prompts speculation about his next recording and touring work. The group is then confirmed at the final date of The Black Crowes’ Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys Tour in San Francisco, where stickers are handed out promoting the band and an April 2011 launch. Under the name Chris Robinson Brotherhood, the band begins a California tour on 29 March 2011 with a show at Soho in Santa Barbara.

Band members

The Brotherhood’s personnel includes Robinson on vocals, Adam MacDougall on keyboards, Mark “Muddy” Dutton on bass, Tony Leone on drums and Neal Casal on guitar. Earlier in the project’s formation, Jonathan Wilson is also announced as a member but leaves shortly afterwards. George Sluppick appears in an early line-up as the drummer.

Recordings

The debut album, Big Moon Ritual, is recorded at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles and released in 2012. The Magic Door follows later the same year and is recorded at the same time as the debut. The band’s third album, Phosphorescent Harvest, appears on Silver Arrow Records in 2014, and Any Way You Love, We Know How You Feel follows in 2016.

Style

The band is associated with blues rock, jam band and southern rock, and is also described as a psychedelic rock act.
