Cagedbaby

Cagedbaby is the electronic project of Brighton-born DJ and producer Thomas Gandey, who is also based in Bordeaux. Born in 1979, Gandey works under the Cagedbaby name for music that combines electro, dance and related club styles, including alternative dance, ambient and chillout, alongside house and UK electronic influences.

Style and production

As Cagedbaby, Gandey is associated with a poppy tech-disco sound and with DJ sets that mix tougher techno with nu disco. He produces his music himself in the studio, and his background as a classically trained pianist and self-described analogue synth enthusiast informs his work. The project is presented as both technologically adventurous and geared towards dance floors.

Releases and labels

Cagedbaby releases music on Southern Fried Records. His album Will See You Now appears on the label, along with the Fried And Tested compilation, which he makes with Fatboy Slim. He also contributes compilations for Pacha and DJ Mag, and appears on a Radio 1 Essential Mix.

Remixes and collaborations

Gandey also produces remixes for The Editors, The Temper Trap, Grace Jones and Alphabeat. His wider collaboration work includes projects with Radioslave, Kris Menace, Fatboy Slim and Tracey Thorn.

DJ work

In addition to studio work, Cagedbaby tours internationally as a DJ. His appearances include shows at Pacha Ibiza, Space and Wonderland in Ibiza, as well as dates in Australia, Asia and the USA. He also holds a residency for We Love at Space in Ibiza.
