Caci Vorba
Caci Vorba are a Polish group active from 2006, with members Любомир Іщук, Paweł Sójka, Robert Brzozowski, Piotr Majczyna and Maria Natanson. The name means “true speech” and is used as a term by Roma communities for their own music.
Style and repertoire
The group works within folk, Gypsy, ethno and ethnic traditions, with a repertoire built around Roma music. Their material draws on forgotten melodies from the Romanian Carpathian Mountains, Hungary and the Balkans, and aims to evoke the atmosphere of an old village music gathering.
Background and development
The musicians come from Lublin, Wrocław and Lviv. From the beginning, the group has taken inspiration from professional Gypsy performers and shapes Eastern European musical material into its own arrangement style.
Maria Natanson
Maria Natanson is the group’s soloist, and her vocal and instrumental work is central to the ensemble’s approach. Gypsy music remains the main part of the band’s repertoire.
