Blood or Whiskey

Blood or Whiskey are an Irish punk group formed in Kildare in 1994. The band begins as an Irish folk and punk crossover act and is compared with The Pogues, with the first two albums strongly shaped by that influence.

History

Lead singer Barney Murray leaves the band in 2003, and guitarist Dugs Mulhooly takes over vocal duties. The group then goes through a series of line-up changes, with Dugs and drummer Chris remaining the only original members by 2005.

In 2005 the band releases Cashed Out On Culture, an album with a more pronounced punk edge than its predecessors. In 2006 whistle player Alan Confrey dies of a heart attack after the band returns to Dublin from a UK tour with Stiff Little Fingers. In 2007 bass player and second vocalist Beano leaves, and later that year the band supports The Pogues at one of their Christmas shows.
