Baxter

Baxter is a Chicago post-hardcore band active from 1995 to 1999. The group forms in Chicago, Illinois, and uses the stylised name “.baxter.” on some artwork.

History

The band begins by playing basement shows and building a following in the local scene. Its first release is the independent full-length cassette Troy’s Bucket, which gains attention in the underground circuit. Baxter then tours widely around the Midwest.

In 1996, the band signs to the independent label Static Station. The following year it releases the 7-inch Lost Voices, by which point it is well known locally. Baxter disbands in 1999.

Members and legacy

The band includes Neil Hennessy, Tim McIlrath, Timothy Remis, Geoff Reu and J. Wood. After Baxter, members remain active in the hardcore scene, including work in Rise Against, The Lawrence Arms, The Honor System and The Killing Tree.

In 2003, Will Not Clear Man Records issues Baxter, a compilation of the band’s official releases and unreleased songs and demos. In 2004, Minneapolis rapper P.O.S. samples “Out of Reach” for “Kidney Thief” on Ipecac Neat.
