Axel Boman
Axel Boman is a Swedish DJ and producer based in Stockholm. He makes house music that is often described as stripped-down, groove-led and playful, with occasional more reflective tracks such as “Depression 01”. He also works in deep house, electronic music, minimal techno and techno.
Early career and Stockholm scene
Boman begins attending raves in the early 1990s and becomes part of Stockholm’s club scene first as a clubgoer and later as a DJ. After moving into production, he starts releasing EPs on Ourvision Recordings in 2008.
Releases and labels
His 2008 digital-only Jungle Jesus EP includes “Arcimboldo”, a track that gains attention in clubs. A remix 12-inch follows in 2010. In the same year, he co-founds Studio Barnhus with Kornél Kovács and Petter Nordkvist, and releases the Holy Love EP on Pampa Records, the label run by DJ Koze. “Purple Drank” becomes the breakout track from that release.
Over the next few years, Boman issues EPs on labels including Play It Down, Glass Table and Hypercolour, and remixes tracks by Harald Björk, DJ Hell, Wolfram and others. His debut album, Family Vacation, appears on Studio Barnhus in 2013 and includes “Fantastic Piano”. He later releases the solo single “1979” on Pampa in 2015, followed by the Moon Dancer EP on Third Try Records in 2016.
Talaboman
Boman forms the duo Talaboman with John Talabot. Their first single, “Sideral”, appears in 2014 after featuring on Talabot’s DJ-Kicks mix in 2013. The duo’s debut album, The Night Land, is released on R&S in 2017.
Label work
Alongside his own releases, Boman runs Studio Barnhus with Kornél Kovács and Petter Nordkvist. The label is one of the main projects associated with his work as a producer and DJ.
