The Great Escape Announces More Bands For 2020

Festival Crowd Header

As The Great Escape’s ‘First Fifty’ live launch comes to 6 venues across East London this week, even more acts are today announced for the 2020 new music festival in Brighton, with a total of 50 artists now on the bill with over 400 still to be announced very soon.

The Great Escape celebrates 15 years in 2020. Having grown to become the festival for new music, on a truly global scale, The Great Escape will take place from 13-16 May 2020 and will host over 450 of the world’s most exciting up-and-coming artists across 30+ walkable venues in Brighton. Plus, there’s the must-attend music industry TGE Conference taking place under one roof at the Jury’s Inn Waterfront, Brighton.

POP

EVIE IRIE | JADA  | BENEE | AARON SMITH

Pop enthusiasts can look forward to new music from Sydney’s rising soul-pop artist Evie Irie, award-winning Danish songwriter Jada, rising 19-year-old New Zealander BENEE, and singer-songwriter Aaron Smith who has clocked up over 2,500,000 streams on Spotify alone.

GRIME / RAP / HIP HOP

BAKER BOY | JAY1

Breakthrough grime and hip-hop artists added to The Great Escape line-up include the freshest new Yolngu hip-hop talent Baker Boy who has gone on to a whirlwind of success as a multi-talented, multi-lingual artist following 2017’s debut single ‘Cloud 9’, and JAY1 who has two number one singles to his name and sold out UK tours, alongside collaborations with the likes of Aitch.

R&B

ODUNSI (THE ENGINE) | VELVET NEGRONI

Rising R&B artists Odunsi (The Engine) joins the line-up with his fusion of smooth R&B with infectious African rhythm, alongside Velvet Negroni who pushes the boundaries of the genre with a concoction of classic soul and West Indian elements.

ALT / INDIE

LARRY PINK THE HUMAN | SINEAD O’BRIEN | ANGELICA GARCIA | PUBLIC PRACTICE | PHOEBE GREEN

Indie and alternative fans can expect to see the enigmatic, lo-fi and kaleidoscopic Larry Pink The Human, the new project from Laurie Vincent (Slaves) and Jolyon Thomas (producer for Slaves, Royal Blood and more), Irish poet and songwriter Sinead O’Brien, grunge pop from Mexican-Salvadoran-American Angelica Garcia, Brooklyn art punks Public Practice, and bittersweet alt pop from Phoebe Green.

JAZZ / EXPERIMENTAL

GOGO PENGUIN

Mercury prize nominees GoGo Penguin are set to play The Great Escape 2020 drawing from a technicolour of influences to create their minimalist and glitchy-electronica sound. They’ve already earned a Mercury Prize nomination with album v2.0 alongside albums from Damon Albarn, Young Fathers and Jungle.
